cute outfit

Super-cute outfit I saw on fashion Remix today.  I love the Frye boots.

It's a swizzle stick!

When I was a kid I was obsessed with swizzle sticks.  My parents never bought them for me for obvious reasons but I found a designer on Etsy who makes jewelery out of them.  I love it when people can make jewelery out of unique finds, especially vintage pieces.

Yes Jumpsuits!!!

I know my new found jumpsuit probably make people laugh and feel sorry for me, but I am one of those people that thinks if you like the way something looks and you look good in it why not??  So I stumbled across this chicks hilarious blog post and had to share her wisdom with everyone.

Craftzine

I love Craft magazine, it's like a little book that comes out a couple of times a year and has awesome craft ideas.  The most recent one has Amy Sedaris on the super-girly cover .  I love her, she has a book out called, I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence.  Her book has lot's of kitschy crafts and recipes.

Craftzine has a Facebook and they have a website that I check everyday.  The Facebook makes daily announcements and recognizes crafters blogs and creations.  One of the latest posts that I think is great is the announcement of local craft fairs.  Portland has allot of craft fairs every holiday season, and i think in this economy it's an economical and unique way to support your communities artists and crafters and a great way to buy holiday gifts.  Tony and I bought most of our Christmas gifts at Crafty Wonderland's holiday sale last year.  Check out the links I posted, especially Crafty Wonderland.

Sublimely stitching

I started embroidering earlier this year because I love to work with my hands and I didn't fall in love with knitting. I stumbled upon Sublime Stitching which is pretty-much a household name in a crafting group. They have super-hip and happening designs that you can iron on. I'm also excited to re-purpose clothes with embroidery.
Right now I am focusing on Christmas gifts, unfortunately, I can't enclose pictures because the recipients might see their presents. Sublime Stitching has cute Christmas designs that I purchased.
I'm most excited about a new book they have called Embroidered Effects , which basically shows all the stitches, fabrics, needles, etc. My all-time favorite stitch is the french knot, I have so much fun with that! I made a Santa beard and mustache with French knot and I also embellished some cherries on vintage tablecloth fabric that I used for one of my plushies- which have yet to be posted on my Etsy.

Disco Diva 70’s jumpsuit and everyday is a catwalk:

Disco Diva 70’s jumpsuit and everyday is a catwalk:

I really enjoy 70’s inspired and vintage fashion. I listened to a lot of disco – thanks to my aunt when I was in high school and that just led to my interest in the disco diva. I love the clothing back then even though most of it was made with flammable polyester. I found this awesome jumpsuit/pantsuit at Target yesterday on the clearance rack for 15.00. I love those finds because I can try the look out, see if I can rock it and then donate it if it doesn’t work for me. Anyway, the pantsuit is super-long and black, poly blend, with spaghetti straps and a deep v-neck. When I wear the pantsuit it hangs really well - even though I’m not a skinny coke-whore and I am inspired to do all sorts of creative things with it. The possibilities are endless with a black, sleeveless jumpsuit. The outfit creates a blank canvas for all kinds of accessories. I need to find a really nice cardigan or wrap to compliment the silhouette so I can wear it for Thanksgiving. Yeah, I like to get stylish for the holidays. I’ll post a picture when I wear it.

I wear the same blue scrubs almost everyday, so I get fancy on my days off- even if I am going to the store. Yesterday Tony and I were at Target (from now-on Tarje), and we saw a girl I used to work with at Nordstrom and she was wearing designer jeans, a black and white herringbone, chunky, wool swing coat and her hair was perfectly styled. The jacket was the focal point and probably the inspiration for her outfit. She and I were both scouring the clearance rack at Tarje and I couldn’t help but stop and stare at her ensemble. She looked marvelous! After we left Tony said she looked way too dressy for Tarje and I thought she looked just-right. I think women who love fashion know that everyday is a mini fashion-show for each other.

Welcome!!

Welcome to my blog. I am finally at a point in my life where I have time to explore my interests. I organized my craft room, I’ve rediscovered old hobbies and interests and I am ready to post them on a blog.

I like to make crafts of all kinds, including embroidery, decoupage, beadwork, glitter (thanks to Martha), and sewing. I have rediscovered my love of photography and I am experimenting with digital photography since the only training I had was super-old-school darkroom photography. I’ll probably take a class or two when I get my hobbies more organized. I bought a Polaroid Land Camera so I can experiment with Polaroid emulsion transfer.

I go through phases out of interest and necessity. I also love fashion, especially repurposed –which I haven’t mastered yet but I can appreciate, embellished, used, etc. I love shopping on-line, in thrift stores, antique stores, craft stores and fabric stores. I want to discover awesome fashion for cheap. I’ll give favorite places and discovered places a shout-out so you can share the discovery with me.
I scour the Internet for blogs, websites, and Etsy stores that share my interests. I am starting a blog because I read other people’s blogs and I think talking about my interests will keep me focused, organized, and inspired. I also hope to discover a community of writers, artists, crafters, and fashionistas.

Thanks for reading!
